Family, friends and colleagues are mourning the tragic death of 26-year-old lawyer Sarah Araba Tettey, who reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama on Wednesday.
Tettey, a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was recently called to the Ghana Bar and had begun her legal career with O & A Legal Consult, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The incident reportedly occurred at Standard Hostel, a private student facility located at Bomso near the KNUST campus, where she was watching the match alongside friends.
Eyewitnesses said Tettey suddenly collapsed amid jubilant celebrations following Ghana’s victory.
She was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital, popularly known as Tech Hospital, where medical personnel battled to save her life. Sources said doctors and nurses performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes in an effort to revive her.
Despite the prolonged emergency intervention, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The news of her passing has sent shockwaves through the legal community and among former colleagues, classmates and friends, many of whom have taken to social media to pay tribute to the young lawyer’s promising life and career.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding her death.
