Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday celebrated his 63rd birthday with a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, expressing gratitude to God for His faithfulness, protection and guidance throughout his life and leadership journey.
Speaking during the service, Governor Oborevwori said the occasion was not about fanfare or elaborate celebrations but an opportunity to return all glory to God for sustaining him over the years.
“As a Christian, the most important thing for me today is to thank God. He has preserved my life, sustained me and guided me. Every other celebration is secondary,” the governor said.
Oborevwori also appreciated the people of Delta State, his supporters and well-wishers for their goodwill and unwavering support, assuring them of his continued commitment to delivering quality governance and advancing the development of the state.
“I am grateful to everyone who has shown me love and support over the years. By the grace of God, I will continue to serve diligently and justify the confidence reposed in me,” he stated.
The governor urged citizens to continually pray for leaders at all levels, noting that effective leadership requires divine wisdom, strength and direction.
“Pray for me, pray for Delta State and pray for all those in positions of authority. We need God’s guidance as we continue to serve the people. I believe that, by His grace, everyone will have the opportunity to fulfil their purpose in life,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori also commended the chaplaincy team for their dedication and consistency in sustaining regular worship activities at the Government House Chapel.
In his sermon titled, “What Is Your Prayer to God?”, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, congratulated the governor on attaining the age of 63 and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon his life and administration.
Drawing from 1 Kings 3:7-12, Osemenam emphasized the importance of seeking wisdom from God, citing King Solomon as an example of a leader whose request for wisdom pleased God and enabled him to govern effectively.
The cleric commended Governor Oborevwori for promoting peace, unity and inclusive governance across Delta State, describing those qualities as evidence of God’s grace at work in his leadership.
According to him, managing a diverse state such as Delta requires wisdom, patience and a commitment to peace. He praised the governor’s efforts in fostering harmony among the various ethnic groups and communities in the state and prayed for greater wisdom and strength for him to continue advancing peace, progress and development.
The thanksgiving service attracted family members, government officials, political associates, members of the clergy and worshippers, who joined the governor in celebrating the milestone and offering prayers for the success of his administration.
A major highlight of the event was the cutting of the birthday cake by Governor Oborevwori, alongside his wife, clerics and top government officials.
