Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Joe Omene, on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary, describing him as an outstanding leader and elder statesman whose contributions to the growth of the Urhobo nation remain invaluable.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori praised the Mosogar-born leader for his decades of dedicated service to the Urhobo people and his unwavering commitment to justice, peace, and development.
The governor said Chief Omene’s leadership qualities, courage, and advocacy for the welfare of the Niger Delta and the Urhobo nation have earned him widespread admiration and respect across Delta State and beyond.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our great leader, Chief Joe Omene, as he clocks 80 years on June 20,” Oborevwori stated.
He noted that Chief Omene has remained a respected voice in the Niger Delta and a symbol of selfless service, whose efforts have contributed significantly to the socio-economic advancement and unity of the Urhobo people.
Governor Oborevwori also expressed appreciation for Omene’s enduring role in promoting peace, cohesion, and development within Delta State, describing his life as one marked by commitment, sacrifice, and impactful leadership.
The governor prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the elder statesman, wishing him good health, renewed strength, and many more years of fruitful service to humanity and the nation.
Chief Joe Omene, a former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union, is widely regarded as one of the foremost leaders of the Urhobo nation, having played significant roles in championing the interests and development of the Urhobo people over the years.
