ZARIA, Kaduna State- The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly trained soldiers of the Nigerian Army to be decisive in confronting terrorists and other criminal elements while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and respect for human rights.

General Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Addressing the recruits, the Army Chief said the soldiers had undergone rigorous military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, and were fully prepared to contribute to ongoing efforts to tackle security threats across the country.

He stressed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to denying terrorists and criminal groups any safe haven, but noted that all military operations must be conducted in strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict.

“The nation expects you to demonstrate discipline, courage, operational excellence and unwavering loyalty to the Constitution as you discharge your duties,” he said.

The COAS also highlighted the continued support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in strengthening the operational capacity of the military to address security challenges nationwide.

General Shaibu warned the soldiers against the misuse of social media, cautioning that unprofessional online conduct and unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information could compromise operational security and undermine national security efforts.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, he expressed confidence that the newly inducted soldiers would play a significant role in sustaining ongoing military offensives aimed at restoring peace, stability and security across the country.

The remarks were contained in a statement issued by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, on June 20, 2026.
