The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced registration for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes at colleges of education and non-technological agricultural National Diploma (ND) programmes in polytechnics, without the need to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued on Thursday, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, said the registration follows the Federal Government’s approval of a policy exempting applicants to the affected programmes from writing the UTME.
Benjamin explained that eligible candidates who possess the required O’Level credits can complete their registration at any Institutional Professional Registration Centre (IPRC) located in colleges of education or at any JAMB Professional Registration Centre (PRC) nationwide.
He noted that although UTME is no longer a requirement for admission into the specified programmes, JAMB has put in place a structured admission process to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted while maintaining academic standards.
“Under this policy, eligible candidates only need to visit any designated IPRC or JAMB PRC with their O’Level credentials to complete their registration. There is no requirement to sit for the annual UTME,” the statement read.
The board said the initiative is aimed at expanding access to teacher education and non-technological agricultural programmes while preserving the quality and integrity of the admission process.
