Former Delta State Governor and immediate past vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office at a critical period in Nigeria’s history and has demonstrated the courage needed to implement reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy.

Okowa made the remarks in Asaba while receiving the national leadership of the Working People United (WPU), which paid him a courtesy visit.

The former governor said President Tinubu’s administration had embarked on economic and policy reforms that were beginning to address some of the country’s major socio-economic and political challenges.

According to him, the removal of fuel subsidy and other economic measures have significantly improved the financial standing of states and local governments, enabling them to meet key obligations.

“Outside fuel subsidy removal, he (President Tinubu) has grown the economy to the extent that local governments and states are now stabilised. They were not stabilised before now.

“By May 2023, no fewer than 27 states were owing salaries; they couldn’t pay workers, but today, all states and local governments are able to pay. It is not magic; somebody is behind it, and it is the courageous President Tinubu,” Okowa said.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the President’s reform agenda, expressing confidence that a second term would allow the administration to consolidate its economic policies and deliver greater benefits to citizens.

“We all know that if he is supported for a second term, the economy of this country will be refocused to the desire of the citizenry,” he said.

Okowa maintained that President Tinubu deserves another term in office to complete the reforms already initiated, adding that Nigerians would, in time, come to appreciate the impact of the administration’s policies.

He also called on members of the Working People United to mobilise support for the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
