BENIN CITY, — BEDC Electricity Plc has recorded significant progress towards resolving the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), following the suspension of the strike in Ekiti, Delta and Ondo states.

The development is expected to pave the way for the gradual restoration of normal electricity distribution operations in the three states after disruptions that affected households, businesses, healthcare facilities and educational institutions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, BEDC Management described the suspension of the industrial action in the three states as an encouraging development, expressing optimism that continued dialogue and constructive engagement would lead to a comprehensive resolution of the dispute.

The company, however, disclosed that the industrial action remained ongoing in Edo State, where efforts were continuing to reach an amicable settlement with the union and other relevant stakeholders.

BEDC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption, noting that the impact had been particularly significant for businesses, hospitals, schools and households that depend on a reliable electricity supply for their daily activities.

The company assured customers in Ekiti, Delta and Ondo states that it was prioritising operational recovery to facilitate the safe and gradual restoration of electricity supply to affected communities.

According to the statement, the restoration process would depend on prevailing network conditions and operational requirements.

In Edo State, BEDC said Management remained committed to peaceful engagement with the relevant stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and restore normal operations as soon as possible.

The electricity distribution company also reiterated its commitment to employee welfare, constructive industrial relations and the continuous delivery of essential electricity services to customers across its franchise areas.

BEDC expressed appreciation to customers, community leaders, government authorities and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and support during the period of disruption.

The company expressed optimism that the progress recorded in Ekiti, Delta and Ondo states would provide momentum for a lasting settlement of the dispute and the eventual resumption of normal operations across all four states.

It added that further updates would be communicated through its official channels as developments unfold.

The industrial action has disrupted electricity distribution services in BEDC’s franchise areas, with the latest development offering hope of improved service in three of the four states served by the company.
