The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide indefinite strike after 29 days of industrial action. The suspension, effective immediately, was announced on Saturday following an Extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on November 29, 2025.
The strike, which began on November 1, involved over 11,000 resident doctors across 91 accredited training institutions. During the period, hospitals faced widespread disruptions, including cancellation of elective surgeries, limited emergency services, and prolonged waiting times for patients.
NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, stated that the decision to suspend the strike came after extensive negotiations with the Federal Government and the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He noted that the four-week suspension provides room for the government to begin implementing agreed resolutions.
