The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will publish the personal particulars of candidates contesting the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, August 1, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

The published details will include the documents and information submitted by candidates during the nomination process, such as their full names, gender, residential addresses, educational qualifications and work experience.

Speaking with TheCable on Friday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the publication is in accordance with the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general election.

According to Haruna, the publication of the presidential and National Assembly candidates’ particulars is listed as Item Five on the electoral timetable, while the personal particulars of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates will be published on August 29.

“The publication of the personal particulars of the presidential and National Assembly candidates tomorrow is Item Five. Those for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates will be be published on August 29,” he said.

Haruna added that the exercise complies with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates INEC to publish candidates’ personal particulars within 21 days of receiving their nomination documents.

In a separate interview, Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, confirmed that the commission will also publish Form EC9 for public inspection on Saturday.

According to Oketola, the forms to be displayed are those submitted by candidates contesting the presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections ahead of the 2027 general election, allowing members of the public to scrutinise the information as provided by the Electoral Act.
