The Nigeria Police Force has called on political stakeholders, supporters and residents of Osun State to maintain peace and obey the law as preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship election.
In a message released ahead of the poll, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stressed that conducting a peaceful, safe and credible election is a shared responsibility between the Nigeria Police Force and the electorate.
The police spokesperson urged citizens to carry out their civic responsibilities peacefully, refrain from acts capable of disrupting the electoral process and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a hitch-free election.
The appeal comes amid heightened political activities and growing public attention over recent exchanges involving Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Governor Okpebholo, while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Osun governorship race, had criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as a leader who spends too much time dancing. The remarks sparked widespread reactions, with Davido—who has been actively supporting his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke—ahead of the election, appearing to respond by sharing what he claimed was the Edo governor’s WAEC result on social media.
Although the exchanges have fueled political debate online, the Nigeria Police Force emphasized the need for all parties and supporters to remain peaceful and conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the election.
The Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order and ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their constitutional right without intimidation or violence.
