BENIN CITY, The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) has commended the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo for what it described as a strong commitment to improving the lives and livelihoods of residents through impactful infrastructure and development projects.
Leader of the committee, Mrs. Busayo Awotunde, gave the commendation on Tuesday after the team inspected key legacy projects across the state alongside the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele.
Speaking after the tour, Awotunde said the committee was impressed by the pace of development achieved by the administration.
“To say that I am impressed would be an understatement. For a government that is barely two years old and has achieved so much, it shows that it is committed to improving the lives of Edo people,” she said.
According to her, the committee would report to the National Economic Council that the Edo State Government has demonstrated commitment to implementing the council’s resolutions and investing resources in projects that improve the welfare of residents.
“We are going to report that the Edo Government is committed to and aligned with efforts to improve the livelihoods of its people. Edo has invested resources and demonstrated commitment to ensuring that the objectives of the council’s resolutions are being achieved,” Awotunde added.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele, said the monitoring exercise was not intended to witch-hunt anyone but to assess legacy projects being implemented by the Okpebholo administration in line with NEC resolutions.
She explained that the Ramat Park Flyover was conceived to address traffic congestion while enhancing the ease of doing business in the state.
Ebosele disclosed that the project was nearing completion and would soon be inaugurated.
“When completed, market women and other traders will be able to carry out their businesses more efficiently, thereby improving their economic activities.
“This economic empowerment was one of the key considerations of Governor Okpebholo when he assumed office. He immediately approved the construction of the flyover. The road connects to the federal highway linking Edo State to the northern part of the country,” she said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, thanked the monitoring committee for concluding its three-day assessment visit to the state.
Idahosa said the legacy projects initiated by Governor Okpebholo were evident across Edo, adding that the administration was executing development projects simultaneously in the state’s three senatorial districts.
The NEC Implementation Monitoring Committee visited Edo State to assess the implementation of projects undertaken by the state government in line with resolutions of the National Economic Council.
