Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has dragged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged forgery of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.
In the suit filed on Friday, August 14, Atiku is asking the court to disqualify Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election, citing the alleged certificate forgery among the grounds for his action.
The development comes amid renewed political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Atiku and the ADC positioning themselves as a major opposition platform.
Atiku’s legal action is expected to generate significant political and public interest, particularly over the authenticity of the NYSC certificate and whether the allegations, if established, have any bearing on Tinubu’s constitutional eligibility to contest the presidency.
The case will now be subject to judicial proceedings, where the court is expected to consider the claims and responses from the parties involved.
