OWERRI — Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to voters in the South-East to support the re-election bid of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 presidential election.
Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday in Owerri, Imo State capital, during her official visit to the South-East as part of an empowerment programme for women across the region.
Speaking to beneficiaries and stakeholders at the event, the First Lady said she was committed to working with the President to build a better Nigeria, stressing that she also wanted to enjoy the benefits of a more prosperous country in her old age.
“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she said.
“I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age, so I will work for Nigeria, for my old age.”
The First Lady explained that the empowerment initiative was being implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to her, the programme is expected to benefit 18,500 women across the country when fully implemented.
She disclosed that 500 women from each of the five South-East states would receive various forms of business-support equipment, including generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens.
Mrs. Tinubu noted that the intervention was designed to strengthen the capacity of women entrepreneurs and enable them to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
In Imo State, however, the number of beneficiaries is expected to exceed the original allocation.
She disclosed that Governor Hope Uzodimma had provided additional empowerment items for 2,000 women in the state.
This, she said, would increase the total number of women benefiting from the programme in Imo State to 2,500.
The First Lady urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the items and use the opportunity to grow their businesses and contribute to the economic development of their families and communities.
