Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has expressed confidence in the chances of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections, declaring that the power of the people will triumph over political godfatherism.
Omo-Agege, who is the candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate under the NDC platform, said the party was determined to secure victory in the forthcoming elections.
In a political statement, the former lawmaker maintained that popular support would ultimately defeat what he described as “godfather power” and political boasting, expressing optimism that voters would determine the outcome of the polls.
He also raised concerns about the possibility of electoral manipulation, alleging that political opponents could resort to rigging in an attempt to secure victory. However, he insisted that his camp would resist any such moves.
According to Omo-Agege, the 2027 elections present an opportunity for Nigerians to assert their democratic power and demand a government that reflects the wishes and aspirations of the electorate.
He further invoked the democratic ideal of a government “of the people, by the people, for the people,” commonly associated with former United States President Abraham Lincoln, to underscore his call for people-centred governance.
Declaring his optimism about the country’s future, Omo-Agege said a new Nigeria was possible, urging Nigerians to believe in the prospect of political change through the democratic process.
His declaration comes as political activities and alignments begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants and political parties positioning themselves for the contests.
Omo-Agege’s ambition to return to the Senate through the NDC platform is expected to place him at the centre of political discussions in Delta Central, where the contest for the senatorial seat is likely to attract significant attention.
The former Deputy Senate President’s message places popular participation, electoral credibility and resistance to political dominance at the heart of his campaign for the 2027 elections.
