The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the allocation of the historic Old Parade Ground in Abuja to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the construction of its new national secretariat.
The party described the action as “executive recklessness and abuse of power” and called on President Bola Tinubu to revoke the allocation, citing concerns over national heritage and public trust ¹.
The SDP argued that the Old Parade Ground holds significant historical value and should be preserved for future generations, rather than being handed over to a political party.
They also questioned the speed and irregularity of the allocation process, which bypassed normal administrative procedures and waived statutory fees.
“This isn’t the first time Wike has faced criticism for his actions as FCT Minister. Previously, he was involved in a controversy over the revocation of the PDP’s national secretariat land due to unpaid ground rents “. The Vanguard online news reports
