OSOGBO — Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to immediately challenge in court the freezing of one of the state government’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The governor’s directive follows the reported freezing of the account by the anti-graft agency, a development the state government has strongly opposed.

Adeleke instructed the Attorney-General to take urgent legal steps to contest the action, insisting that the state’s finances and governance must not be disrupted.

The latest development comes shortly after the governor alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze all Osun State Government accounts and those of top government officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The state government had described the alleged move as politically motivated and warned that it could cripple governance and the delivery of essential public services.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement on the reported freezing of the account or respond to the allegations by the Osun State Government.

More details shortly.
