The renaming of Airport Road in Effurun/Warri has sparked criticism, with a resident, Real Oris Lucky, questioning the decision to rename the road while, according to him, the route remains in poor condition.
Lucky, in a statement, described the road as “completely unmotorable” and plagued by potholes, urging the Delta State Government to prioritise its rehabilitation.
He said the road had not received significant maintenance since the administration of former Governor James Ibori, alleging that successive administrations had allowed the infrastructure to deteriorate.
Lucky expressed concern that attention was being given to renaming the road rather than addressing what he described as its worsening condition.
He appealed to the Delta State Government and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the road, now known as Sheriff Oborevwori Way.
According to Lucky, the road falls under the responsibility of the state government, and he therefore urged the administration to address the condition of the road for the benefit of residents and motorists.
The comments have renewed calls for greater attention to road infrastructure and maintenance in the Effurun/Warri axis.
