The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as speculative and unfounded.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, CON, said the party had observed a growing media frenzy around the issue, noting that recent reports had gone further to mention specific individuals as possible replacements for the Vice President.
Morka stated that the APC rejects the reports in their entirety, stressing that they are “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.”
He urged media organisations to exercise restraint and avoid amplifying rumours and claims from what he described as “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance,” whose aim, he said, is to sow confusion and discord within the polity.
According to the APC spokesperson, political activities remain restricted under existing laws and electoral regulations, adding that the party’s focus at this time is firmly on governance rather than electioneering.
“At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms that are now steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and uplifting the living conditions of our people,” the statement said.
Morka also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them instead to concentrate on their responsibilities to government and the party.
He said party officials must remain committed to strengthening the success and achievements of President Tinubu, whom he described as an “inimitable and visionary leader.”
