Benin City — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a clean sweep in the Edo State local government elections, winning all 18 chairmanship seats and the 192 councillorship positions contested across the state.

The Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, announced the official results on Sunday after the completion of the collation process.

The local government election, held on Saturday, took place across Edo State’s 18 local government areas and 192 political wards, with several political parties fielding candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions.

Announcing the outcome, Aifuobhokhan said the APC emerged victorious in every local government area and ward where elections were conducted. However, he did not provide a breakdown of votes scored by the participating political parties.

According to the EDSIEC chairman, the election was conducted in compliance with the provisions of the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law, 2022, as amended in 2026, as well as other applicable electoral guidelines.

He stated that the processes of voter accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation, and declaration of results were carried out in accordance with the law.

“Following the completion of the collation process at the various ward and local government collation centres, the duly appointed ward and local government returning officers announced and declared the results in their respective jurisdictions,” Aifuobhokhan said.

“Based on the official results declared by the returning officers, the commission hereby declares that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the 18 local government chairmanship seats and all the 192 councillorship positions contested in the election.”

The EDSIEC chairman commended the returning officers for conducting the exercise professionally, impartially, and in line with the electoral guidelines.

He acknowledged that while minor operational challenges were experienced in a few polling locations, they did not substantially affect the overall conduct or outcome of the election.

The announcement officially concludes the 2026 Edo State local government election, with the APC securing control of all elected local government offices across the state.
