Former US President Bill Clinton has paid tribute to Dolly Parton, describing the late country music legend as “one of a kind” and praising her for using her music and influence to give back to society.

In a statement mourning Parton’s death, Clinton said the singer-songwriter had a rare ability to tell the stories of ordinary Americans with “honesty, humility, and heart.”

Clinton recalled Parton’s rise from her roots in East Tennessee to international stardom, noting that despite her enormous success, she remained connected to her humble beginnings.

“Dolly Parton was one of a kind—a great songwriter and performer who told the stories of everyday Americans with honesty, humility, and heart,” Clinton said.

He also highlighted Parton’s long-standing commitment to philanthropy, particularly her efforts to promote literacy and improve the lives of children.

Clinton said he and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were longtime admirers of Parton and remembered seeing her perform in 1974.

“Hillary and I were big fans and first saw her in 1974, and will always be grateful for the music and the memories,” he said.

The former president extended his condolences to Parton’s family, millions of fans and everyone who admired her work.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her legion of fans, and everyone who loved her,” Clinton added.

Parton, widely known as the “Queen of Country,” built a career spanning nearly six decades, becoming one of the most influential figures in country music through her songwriting, distinctive voice and performances.

Beyond music, she established herself as an actress, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Her charitable work included the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a literacy initiative that provides free books to children.

Her songs, including Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You, have become enduring classics, while her generosity and distinctive personality made her a cultural icon far beyond the world of country music.

Clinton’s tribute adds to a growing wave of remembrance for Parton, whose music and humanitarian work touched generations of admirers around the world.
