Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Emomotimi Guwor, has welcomed lawmakers back to plenary after the Christmas and New Year break, praising Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership and commitment to development.

Rt. Hon. Guwor, in his opening remarks on Tuesday at the resumed plenary of the State Legislature, on behalf of the leadership of the House, warmly welcomed members to plenary and extended his heartfelt New Year greetings to them and their families.

The Speaker highlighted the Assembly’s achievements, including passing people-oriented bills and effective oversight, contributing to improved governance and transparency.

“Distinguished Colleagues, as we resume legislative business, it is important to reflect on the notable achievements recorded by this 8th Assembly. By the grace of God, this House has remained steadfast in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. We have passed people-oriented bills, adopted critical resolutions, and carried out effective oversight that has contributed meaningfully to improved governance, transparency, and accountability across the State.

“Our Committees have continued to function diligently, engaging Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure compliance with legislative approvals and prudent utilization of public resources. These efforts underscore our collective commitment to advancing the welfare and aspirations of the people of Delta State,” he said.

Rt. Hon. Guwor thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his “efficient and effective leadership, purposeful governance, and unwavering commitment to the development of Delta State”.

The Speaker cited the Governor’s recent groundbreaking of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli North as “irrefutable evidence of good governance”.

He explained that the Governor’s people-focused policies, infrastructural investments, and prudent management of resources have continued to yield tangible dividends across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Guwor emphasized that the Assembly’s priorities, including enacting laws that promote economic growth, peace, security, social welfare, and infrastructural development, will be sustained, promising that the House will intensify its oversight functions.

He said, “This Honourable House acknowledges the harmonious working relationship that exists between the Legislature and the Executive, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision for a stronger and prosperous Delta State. We assure His Excellency of our continued support through sound legislation and constructive oversight, in the best interest of our people.

“As we look ahead, the priorities of this House remain clear. We shall continue to focus on the enactment of laws that promote economic growth, peace and security, social welfare, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development. We will also intensify our oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of government policies and programmes.

“Distinguished Colleagues, I urge us to approach the remaining part of the Third Session with renewed vigour, unity of purpose, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Let our debates be robust but respectful, our engagements constructive, and our decisions guided solely by the collective interest of Deltans,” the Speaker stated.
