The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his alleged call for the killing of members of the Accord Party ahead of the state governorship election.
The development follows widespread outrage over a video in which Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was allegedly heard directing party supporters to attack members of the rival Accord Party if they encountered them during the electoral process in parts of the state.
The senator’s remarks, reportedly made in Yoruba, have sparked condemnation and raised concerns over the potential for political violence as the August 15 governorship election approaches.
The police summons, according to a report by TheCable, is part of the command’s response to the controversy surrounding the senator’s comments. The publication reported that it obtained a copy of the summons.
The police are expected to question Fadahunsi over the alleged statement and its potential implications for public safety and the conduct of the election.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Osun, with political parties intensifying campaigns and mobilising supporters ahead of the poll.
Authorities have repeatedly urged politicians and their supporters to refrain from inflammatory statements, intimidation and acts capable of undermining a peaceful electoral process.
The police have not publicly disclosed the outcome of the invitation or whether any further action will be taken against the senator.
