Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Mrs. Abubakar, the wife of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, after a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to military sources, the rescue operation was carried out under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III following intelligence-driven offensives launched across Matazu and neighboring communities in response to the abduction of the retired senior military officer and members of his family.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that troops, while conducting a search-and-rescue mission, made contact with the bandits at Tunga village. The armed criminals reportedly came under heavy military pressure and fled the scene.

“The bandits shot her and fled when troops made contact with them at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She was bleeding, and troops immediately administered first aid before evacuating her for urgent medical treatment,” a military source disclosed.

The source added that the victim was stabilized by troops at the scene before being moved to a medical facility for further treatment.

Military authorities said follow-up operations have been intensified, with troops pursuing fleeing bandits and suspected kingpins believed to be responsible for the attack and the earlier abduction.

According to the sources, the ongoing Operation CLEAN SWEEP III will continue until criminal hideouts in the area are dismantled and those responsible are brought to justice.

Security officials reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating in the region and restoring security across affected communities.
