Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said that former President Muhammadu Buhari was let down by praise-singers and sycophants during his time in office, many of whom have now turned against him.
Speaking in a recent interview, Governor Sule noted that several individuals who constantly flattered the former president while he was in power were the same people criticizing him after he left office.
“Most of those who were singing Buhari’s praises when he was president are the ones speaking against him today. He was surrounded by sycophants who only told him what he wanted to hear,” Sule said.
The governor explained that Buhari’s administration faced challenges partly because some close aides and supporters failed to give him honest feedback or constructive criticism.
He added that political leaders must learn from Buhari’s experience by surrounding themselves with people who can speak truth to power rather than those driven by personal interests.
“Leaders must be careful about those who only tell them what pleases them. Real friends and loyalists are the ones who can point out the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable,” he added.
Governor Sule emphasized that his comments were not meant to disparage the former president but to highlight the importance of sincerity and accountability in governance.
