Adedamola Joshua, who is said to be the uncle of British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua, has strongly condemned the growing culture of misconduct by some Nigerians at accident scenes, describing it as inhumane and deeply troubling.

Reacting to a recent accident involving Anthony Joshua—an incident in which two persons reportedly died on the spot—Adedamola Joshua lamented that instead of offering help, many bystanders often resort to filming victims with their mobile phones, while others allegedly take advantage of the chaos to steal personal belongings.

According to him, there were reports that Anthony Joshua’s mobile phone was stolen during the incident, a development he described as unacceptable and reflective of a wider societal problem that must be urgently addressed.

He stressed that accident scenes should never be treated as opportunities for entertainment or exploitation, but as emergencies requiring immediate assistance, empathy, and order.

Adedamola Joshua further called on the Nigeria Police Force and other emergency response agencies to improve their response time, urging them to promptly arrive at accident scenes and cordon off affected areas to prevent interference, looting, and further loss of life.

He also emphasized the urgent need for nationwide public enlightenment, particularly across motor parks and busy transport corridors, to educate Nigerians on their civic responsibility during emergencies.

According to him, citizens should see it as a national duty to immediately alert the appropriate authorities whenever they encounter accidents, fire outbreaks, or other disaster situations.

He expressed concern that many Nigerians are unaware of emergency toll-free numbers, noting that anyone can suddenly find themselves in need of urgent help.

“Emergency situations can happen to anyone at any time,” he noted, adding that knowing who to call and how to respond could make the difference between life and death.

He concluded by urging relevant authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns and make emergency contact numbers more visible and accessible nationwide, while also calling on citizens to act with compassion and responsibility in moments of crisis.
