The wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to advancing quality education in the state, pledging continued support for initiatives that promote learning and academic excellence among children across the state.

Deaconess Oborevwori gave this assurance on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of teaching and learning materials to basic and special schools across the 25 local government areas of Delta State, organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.

The wife of the Governor noted that the MORE Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration remains firmly committed to advancing education at all levels, stressing that investment in education is the bedrock of meaningful development.

“Education is the foundation of any progressive society. No state or nation can achieve sustainable development without investing in the education of its children. This administration will continue to support initiatives that improve teaching and learning in our schools,” she said.

The Delta First Lady expressed optimism that the distribution of the materials to public basic and special schools would significantly enhance learning outcomes for pupils across the state.

“These teaching and learning materials will go a long way in supporting both teachers and pupils. I encourage our children to take their studies seriously because they are the future leaders of our state and nation,” she added.

Mrs Oborevwori commended the Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, his management team, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and other collaborating partners for their commitment to improving standards in the state education sector.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Samuel Mariere, disclosed that over 6,000 textbooks, notebooks, and other teaching and learning materials were being distributed to basic schools across the state.

According to him, the initiative is in line with the Delta State Government’s vision to strengthen basic education under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“This distribution is part of our deliberate effort to improve the learning environment in our schools and ensure that every child has access to the necessary materials required for effective learning,” Mariere stated.

Hon Mariere noted that since the inception of the current administration, Delta SUBEB has continued to enjoy strong support from both the state government and UBEC, which has helped position the state among the leading performers in basic education delivery in Nigeria.

Mariere also commended the Governor’s wife for her humanitarian interventions through the You Matter Charity Foundation, noting that her support has continued to complement government efforts in the education sector.

“We are grateful for the consistent support of Her Excellency through the You Matter Charity Foundation. Her passion for the welfare and education of children is commendable and impactful,” he added.

The SUBEB Chairman warned head teachers and school administrators against diverting the materials meant for pupils, stressing that strict monitoring mechanisms have been put in place.

“These materials are meant for the pupils. Any head teacher found diverting them for personal gain will face severe sanctions. We have put in place monitoring teams to ensure that the items reach the intended beneficiaries,” he cautioned.

In their goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, and the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, represented by the Delta State UBEC Coordinator, Sharon Dafiluelo, commended Delta SUBEB for its sustained efforts in repositioning and strengthening primary education in the state.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of recognition to Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori for her immense support to basic education in the state, as well as the inspection and official flag-off of the distribution of teaching and learning materials to schools.

School Improvement Grants were also presented to selected schools across the state.

The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, the Woman Leader of the Delta State APC, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie, local government chairmen and their representatives, members of the SUBEB Board, Local Education Secretaries, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
