Delta State’s Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has said that State Road Safety Advisory Council (SARSAC) would be made more functional in the state.

Sir Onyeme gave the assurance on Thursday in Asaba when he met Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State.

The Deputy Governor expressed joy that SARSAC has already been domesticated in Delta in compliance with the National Road Safety Strategy as approved by the National Executive Council.

“I have been very close to the state Command of the Federal Road Safety Command.

“Apart from being a Special Marshal, I became very close to the state command when I was the Executive Chairman of Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) before I became the Deputy Governor.

“DSIRS has a very close relationship with the FRSC because one of the major functions we carried out was motor licensing; so, we had meetings severally; as such, I am very much familiar with your activities.

“The major thing you talked about here, is for us to collaborate, for us to make sure that our roads are safe and our vehicles are secured, through your activities.

“You also mentioned that the State Advisory Road Safety Council (SARSAC) be made more active, I assure you that we will work with your team to make it more functional because it is already domesticated in our state in line with National Road Safety Strategy as approved by the Federal Executive Council.

“As a government, the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is always willing and ready to partner with agencies of the Federal Government because our people are the beneficiaries of your services and we want a safer road as we prepare for Christmas,” the Deputy Governor said.

Corps Commander Joyce Alexander had told the Deputy Governor and officials of the state government that the visit was to further cement the relationship between FRSC and the State government.

She appealed to government to make SARSAC more effective in order to improve road safety.
