The Bomadi Local Government Legislative Arm has formally submitted a notice of impeachment to the Delta State House of Assembly, recommending the removal of Hon. Dagidi Andaye from office as Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council.
The impeachment proceedings against the Chairman of the Council, was sequel to alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds, leveled against Hon Dagidi Andaye.
The impeachment notice dated January 5, 2026, and addressed to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, was submitted to the State Assembly on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 and expected to be deliberated on upon the resumption of plenary by the House in line with the local government law.
The Councillors in the impeachment notice to the Assembly and copied the embattled Council Boss and the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Councillors disclosed that the resolution to remove the Chairman was supported by fifteen out of the twenty elected councillors, meeting the constitutional requirement of a two-thirds majority.
The lawmakers accused Hon. Andaye of engaging in “reckless and unconstitutional expenditure of public funds,” actions they described as a clear breach of his oath of office and the Delta State Local Government Law.
Among the most serious allegations is the claim that the Chairman forged councillors’ signatures to fraudulently obtain a loan of ₦800 million from Zenith Bank without the approval of the legislative house.
The councillors further alleged that Chairman exhibited high-handedness in the administration of the council, including using local government vigilantes and suspected thugs to intimidate citizens and councillors, and at one point locking up the legislative chambers to disrupt legislative activities.
The impeachment notice which photo copies was made available to newsmen, also accused the Chairman of appointing aides “not known to law” and secretly paying them with council funds, as well as awarding contracts that were neither budgeted for nor approved by the legislature and diverting such jobs to himself.
Citing Section 31(1) of the Delta State Local Government Law, the councillors stated that a chairman may be removed for misconduct or breach of the law, including violations relating to asset declaration and oath of office.
The Lawmakers stated that they have therefore resolved to recommend Hon. Andaye’s removal to the Delta State House of Assembly in line with Section 31(2) of the local government law.
“We, the undersigned councillors, allege that the Chairman has committed these acts, which are in breach of his oath of office,” the notice read. “We therefore recommend to this Honourable House the removal of Hon. Dagidi Andaye from the office of Chairman, Bomadi Local Government Area.”
Meanwhile, the Bomadi Legislative House also announced a major shake-up in its internal leadership following the impeachment and indefinite suspension of the former Leader of the House, Hon. Wurukeseiye Doubra.
In a separate notification, the lawmakers said the decision to remove the former Leader was taken unanimously on the same day, January 5, 2026, over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and the unauthorized signing of a bank loan without legislative consent.
The House disclosed that the impeachment process against the former Leader was initiated through a motion moved by Hon. Bariki Godsday and seconded by Hon. Rophina Egbebo, and carried out in accordance with the House rules. Four other principal officers were also suspended pending further legislative review.
Following the leadership changes, new principal officers were announced. Hon. ThankGod Tiriki emerged as the new Leader of the House, with Hon. Harris Barbar as Deputy Leader and Hon. Isaiah Emmanuel as Majority Leader. Other appointments include Hon. Bariki Godsday as Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Coleman Dennis as Chief Whip, and Hon. Komuko Pius as Deputy Chief Whip.
Explaining the rationale behind the actions, the councillors said the decisions were aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency in local governance.
“This development is part of the House’s efforts to uphold accountability and transparency in governance, and to ensure that those in positions of authority are held accountable for their actions,” the notification stated.
The lawmakers also reassured residents of Bomadi Local Government Area of their commitment to good governance. “We assure the people of Bomadi of our commitment to good governance and responsibility and will do everything within the ambit of the law to ensure that justice, equity and fairness reign,” they added.
The Delta State House of Assembly is expected to study the impeachment recommendation and take further action in line with the provisions of the law.
