The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a social media user over an alleged threat directed at Peter Obi following a recent incident in Benin, the Edo State capital.
Details of the arrest were reported by TheCable, which cited security sources.
The development comes days after Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, alleged that Obi and several chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were attacked during a visit to the residence of John Odigie-Oyegun, a senior member of the party, in Benin.
Tanko had raised concerns about the safety of the former Anambra State governor during the visit.
In a related statement, Olumide Akpata, Labour Party candidate in the 2024 Edo governorship election, alleged that his cousin sustained injuries during the incident, claiming his head was struck with a bottle.
The DSS has not yet issued a detailed public statement outlining the specific charges or circumstances surrounding the arrest. However, security sources indicate that investigations are ongoing.
Further updates are expected as authorities provide more information on the case.
