BEDC Electricity Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to constructive labour relations and the welfare of its employees, highlighting a consultative meeting held with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in 2025.
The engagement, led by the company’s Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, provided a platform for discussions on staff welfare, industrial relations and BEDC’s ongoing transformation agenda.
According to the company, the meeting reflected its commitment to maintaining open communication channels with organised labour and promoting mutual understanding in addressing workplace concerns.
BEDC said labour representatives acknowledged management’s employee-focused initiatives and efforts to improve staff welfare and strengthen organisational development during the engagement.
The company also highlighted several staff-focused interventions pursued by its current Board and Management, including career advancement opportunities, improvements in healthcare, employee recognition programmes, settlement of longstanding staff obligations and specialised capacity development.
It noted that engagement with labour stakeholders remained an important component of its transformation efforts, adding that cooperation between management and unions was essential to sustaining a productive workforce and ensuring industrial stability.
While acknowledging that some labour-related matters remain under discussion, BEDC reiterated its readiness to engage with union representatives towards resolving outstanding issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The electricity distribution company stressed that constructive engagement and peaceful dispute resolution offered a more sustainable approach to protecting workers’ interests while ensuring the continuity of essential electricity services.
“BEDC remains committed to dialogue, cooperation and the peaceful resolution of outstanding labour issues,” the company stated, reaffirming its willingness to work with organised labour in the interest of its employees and the communities it serves.
The company maintained that sustained collaboration between management and labour would remain critical to improving employee relations, advancing organisational reforms and supporting the delivery of reliable electricity services across its franchise areas.
