The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from his position amid alleged moves by some members of the assembly to impeach him.
Agbebaku’s resignation was confirmed on Monday by his media aide, Ivy Ebojele, in a Facebook post.
Ebojele, however, did not disclose further details surrounding the Speaker’s decision, stating that more information would be communicated in due course.
The development comes amid reports of an alleged impeachment move against Agbebaku by some lawmakers in the assembly.
Agbebaku’s resignation is expected to generate further political reactions in the state as attention shifts to the next steps by the Edo State House of Assembly.
