Motorists to use College Road as Joromi Junction, Stadium Road face temporary closure from 6am to 6pm

The Edo State Government has announced traffic diversions and temporary road closures in parts of Benin City ahead of the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The First Lady is expected to visit the state to commission a fleet of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses purchased by the Edo State Government and empower 5,000 women in the state.

In a press statement, the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Engr. Stainless M. I. Ijeghede, said the traffic restrictions would be in effect from 6am to 6pm on Thursday.

According to the statement, Joromi Junction along Ekewan Road and the Stadium Road–Ekewan Road junction will be blocked during the period.

To ease movement, motorists travelling from Ekewan Road towards Ring Road have been advised to use College Road as an alternative route.

The agency also directed vehicles conveying participants to the programme to park within the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ekewan Campus.

EDSTMA urged motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, use designated alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officers deployed to manage movement around the affected areas.

The agency apologised for any inconvenience the temporary closures might cause and appealed to residents and road users to comply with the traffic arrangements to ensure smooth movement during the First Lady’s visit.

The visit is expected to feature the commissioning of the new CNG buses and an empowerment programme for 5,000 women in Edo State.
