The Edo State Government has called on Christian faithful, religious leaders and spiritually conscious residents of the state to participate in a 14-day fasting and prayer exercise for divine protection, preservation and direction for the state.
The exercise, scheduled to run from September 1 to 14, 2026, is being coordinated under the leadership of Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, JP, Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters and Chaplain, Government House Chapel, Benin City.
In a special announcement titled “14 Days of Fasting and Prayer for Divine Protection and Direction for Edo State,” Azekhumen urged Edolites to unite in faith and intercession as the state enters the 2026 Ember Months.
According to the statement, participants are expected to observe the daily fasting period from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with emphasis on prayers for the continued preservation and protection of Edo State.
The exercise will also seek divine direction and greater wisdom for the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, members of his working team and all citizens of the state.
The organisers cited Psalm 35:13, Matthew 17:21 and Esther 4:16 as scriptural references for the prayer and fasting programme.
While those who are physically able are encouraged to participate in sectional dry fasting, the organisers stressed that everyone should participate according to their individual capacity.
The statement called on Christian faithful and other spiritually conscious Edolites to come together in prayer, declaring: “When God’s people pray, God moves! Edo State is in God’s hands.”
