The Uwuilekhue Saturday Idehen, Hon. Uwuilekhue Saturday Idehen (JP), has carried out a follow-up inspection around Ring Road in Benin City to assess compliance with traffic regulations and sustain recent improvements in orderliness within the city centre.

The inspection team included the Chairman of the Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Hon. Eric Okaka; the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), Engr. Stainless Ijeghede; and enforcement officers from the Ministry of Transportation.

During the tour of identified flashpoints around Ring Road, the team monitored adherence to directives on proper parking as well as designated loading and offloading of passengers. Cases of illegal parking and unauthorised passenger loading were addressed on the spot.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Idehen said the follow-up inspection was necessary to reinforce earlier directives and ensure that the gains recorded in traffic management within the area are maintained.

“Consistent monitoring is key to sustaining order and guaranteeing smooth traffic flow around Ring Road and adjoining areas,” the Commissioner stated.

He emphasised that while public sensitisation efforts would continue, enforcement measures would be applied where necessary. According to him, the Edo State Government remains committed to discouraging practices that inconvenience road users and disrupt public order.

The team also visited the Central Motor Park, where the Commissioner engaged with commercial drivers. He commended them for complying with regulations and utilising designated facilities for their operations.

Hon. Idehen assured the drivers of the government’s continued efforts to build a safe, orderly, and efficient transportation system, urging them to sustain their level of compliance.

Hon. Okaka described the monitoring exercise as timely and necessary, noting that sustained legislative oversight would support ongoing efforts to strengthen transportation orderliness across the metropolis.

Similarly, Engr. Ijeghede reaffirmed EDSTMA’s commitment to professional and consistent enforcement of traffic regulations, pledging continued collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and other stakeholders.

The follow-up exercise underscores the Edo State Government’s resolve to maintain discipline on major roads and enhance traffic flow within the state capital.
