The Edo State Government has announced plans to introduce electric tricycles through a strategic partnership with international investors as part of its drive to promote affordable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transportation across the state.
The initiative, being championed by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, is expected to advance the state’s clean energy agenda while supporting Nigeria’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
Under the partnership, the state government will collaborate with Moseri Holding, a United States-based company, and China’s Forever Group through JBV to facilitate the production of electric tricycles for use by residents.
The proposed electric tricycle scheme will complement the Edo State Government’s recent acquisition of 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, a move aimed at expanding access to affordable public transportation while reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
According to the state government, both initiatives are expected to strengthen the P-HEART programme by improving mobility, lowering transportation costs, and encouraging the adoption of cleaner energy alternatives.
The government said the partnership reflects its commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure and modern transport solutions that will benefit residents and contribute to environmental protection.
