Federal, State and Local Government have been called upon to always prioritize the safety of pedestrians and other road users by putting adequate safety measures in place before commencing any road construction.

This followed the recent death of a motorcyclist, Mr. Frank Omoruyi, who  was swept into a borrow pit during heavy flooding on Tuesday evening in Ekpoma

It’s Opined that installing clear warning signs and barricades around construction zones, providing safe alternative walkways and road diversions and ensuring proper lighting, especially at night would go a long way to guarantee citizens safety and security.

“Enforcing compliance with safety standards by contractors to say the least, is necessary and by doing so, the government will not only reduce accidents but also protect the lives of citizens while ensuring smoother execution of road projects”.

Meanwhile, the body of Frank Omoruyi who was swept away by flood has been recovered from borrow pit in Ekpoma.
