The Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR) has officially unveiled Comrade Martins Giadom as its National Chairman, marking a new phase in the association’s efforts to promote professional journalism and strengthen reporting on Nigeria’s energy and maritime sectors.
The unveiling of Giadom was announced by the association in a statement celebrating his emergence as leader of the professional body, describing him as a journalist committed to strengthening professional standards and advancing the collective interests of media practitioners across the country.
As National Chairman, Giadom is expected to provide leadership for EMR as the association continues to engage with developments in Nigeria’s energy and maritime industries—two sectors that remain critical to the country’s economy.
The maritime sector, in particular, plays a major role in Nigeria’s international trade, with the country’s ports serving as key gateways for the movement of imports and exports. However, the industry continues to face challenges including port congestion, delays in cargo clearance, inadequate infrastructure, insecurity along waterways, high logistics costs and concerns over the efficiency and competitiveness of port operations.
Other issues, such as the need for greater transparency, stronger regulatory enforcement, improved safety standards and effective collaboration among government agencies and maritime stakeholders, also remain central to discussions about the future of the sector.
Against this backdrop, EMR’s focus on professional and accurate reporting is considered important in keeping the public informed while providing stakeholders with credible coverage of policies, reforms, investments and emerging developments within the maritime and energy industries.
The association said Giadom’s leadership would further promote professionalism, integrity and excellence among practitioners covering the two sectors.
