BENIN CITY — The Edo State Ministry of Works has reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration to delivering quality infrastructure across the state, saying more than 60 road, bridge and erosion control projects are currently at various stages of execution.
The ministry made the disclosure during a media tour of ongoing projects across Edo South Senatorial District, an initiative aimed at giving journalists firsthand access to inspect the pace and quality of work on major infrastructure projects.
Leading the tour, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Dr. John Obanor, said the government was committed to transparency and timely delivery of projects despite the challenges posed by the rainy season.
According to Obanor, four road projects initiated by the present administration have already been completed, while three inherited from the previous administration have also been successfully delivered.
He expressed confidence that contractors handling the various projects would meet, and in some cases exceed, the government’s expectations by completing the projects within the stipulated timelines.
One of the major sites visited was the Ramat Park Flyover, where construction of what will become Edo State’s first flyover bridge is progressing steadily. Obanor said he was satisfied with the quality of work, noting that the accompanying erosion control and gully reclamation project along Obaseki Street would provide a permanent solution to a long-standing environmental challenge.
The delegation also inspected the ongoing Adesuwa Road/Sapele Road Flyover project, where engineers are carrying out piling operations that will serve as the foundation for the massive structure.
Along the Benin–Sapele–Warri Road, the media team observed asphalt rehabilitation works on failed sections of the highway being executed by CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Limited, while the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is handling Section One, Phase Two of the reconstruction using continuous reinforced concrete pavement technology.
The tour also covered Palace Road, Upper Mission Extension, where officials of Mutual Commitment Company Limited said construction has reached the final stage.
Other project sites visited included Uhie Road off Benin–Sapele Road, being handled by Rodnab Construction Company; internal roads at Ogheghe and Old Sapele Road being executed by Brass Engineering; Evbhukhu–Sapele Road under Rawtech Limited; and Mechanic Road, where IDC Construction Limited is undertaking extensive reconstruction works.
Contractors at the various locations assured government officials and journalists that the projects would be completed according to schedule despite seasonal weather conditions, explaining that many of the technically demanding phases of construction had already been completed.
Residents of communities benefiting from the projects also welcomed the ongoing infrastructure development, describing the interventions as long overdue and expressing optimism that the roads and drainage systems would improve transportation, reduce flooding, stimulate economic activities and enhance living conditions.
Speaking on the significance of the media tour, Obanor said the initiative reflected the ministry’s commitment to openness and accountability by allowing independent verification of government projects.
He noted that firsthand reporting by journalists would provide the public with a clearer understanding of the scale, quality and impact of the infrastructure projects being executed across Edo State.
