Family Announces Burial Rites for Late PUNCH Correspondent in Delta

The family of Nwanazia and Ochei of Ukwu-Nzu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State has announced the passing of their beloved father, husband, uncle, nephew and comrade, Matthew Ochei.

He died on January 6, 2026, at the age of 49.

In a statement released by the family, burial activities will commence on Thursday, February 19, 2026, with a Service of Songs scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, Okwe, Asaba.

According to the family, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., his body will depart Pikin Mortuary, Issele-Uku, to his father’s compound in Iyogo Quarters, Ukwu-Nzu, Aniocha North LGA, where he will lie in state. This will be followed by a burial service at Berthel Anglican Church, Ukwu-Nzu. Interment and reception will take place immediately afterward in his hometown.

Until his death, the late Comrade Matthew Ochei served as the Asaba Correspondent of The Punch.

He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members.

The family prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
