The Federal High Court (FHC) has introduced the Federal High Court (Pre-Election) Practice Directions, 2026, aimed at ensuring the fair, impartial and speedy determination of pre-election cases across the country.
The new practice directions were issued on Tuesday by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, as part of efforts to enhance the efficient management of pre-election litigation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The guidelines are designed to provide a clear procedural framework for the filing, hearing and determination of pre-election matters, with the objective of promoting consistency, transparency and timely dispensation of justice.
The practice directions are also expected to help reduce unnecessary delays in the resolution of election-related disputes, in line with constitutional timelines governing pre-election cases.
