The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the minister congratulated Muslims across the country and in the diaspora on the occasion of the sacred festival, urging Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, peace, and unity which Eid-el-Kabir represents.
Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens to use the festive period to pray for the peace, stability, and continued progress of the country, while assuring Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to national development and security.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
