The Federal Government has launched a new technology-driven education initiative that will provide digital learning devices and professional development opportunities to about 2,000 teachers and school leaders across Nigeria.
The project, funded by the Government of Japan with approximately one million US dollars, is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with UNESCO and the Pan African University. It is designed to strengthen the teaching profession by leveraging technology to improve access to continuous learning and professional development.
The initiative places particular emphasis on empowering female teachers and school leaders through digital technology, while addressing challenges such as distance, limited internet connectivity and time constraints that often hinder access to quality training.
As part of the programme, teachers and school leaders will receive modern digital devices to support mobile-based learning, enhance classroom instruction and improve access to professional development resources.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, will be equipped with digital tools and learning platforms aimed at bridging educational gaps, unlocking the potential of educators and promoting a more inclusive and equitable education system.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the initiative reflects its commitment to improving the quality of teaching through innovation and strategic partnerships, while ensuring that educators are better prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital learning environment.
The project is expected to strengthen teaching capacity nationwide and expand access to continuous professional development for educators, ultimately contributing to improved learning outcomes across the country.
