According to a report by BBC News, U.S. President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted to safety after gunshots were heard during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were reportedly engaged in conversation before being interrupted by a sudden commotion. Witnesses described hearing multiple loud bangs, prompting immediate action from security personnel.
Members of the United States Secret Service quickly moved in, instructing attendees to “Stay down!” as they escorted the president and other protected individuals out of the venue.
Authorities later confirmed that approximately seven to eight gunshots were fired. In a statement, the Secret Service assured that the president, first lady, and all protectees were unharmed.
