WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation following a security incident at a Hilton hotel, arguing that the episode underscores the urgent need for major security enhancements at the White House.
Speaking shortly after the event, Trump described the hotel venue as insufficiently secure and said the situation highlighted vulnerabilities in current event locations. He used the moment to advocate for a long-proposed White House ballroom project, which he claims would meet modern security demands.
“I think all of the conditions we saw tonight make the case clear,” Trump said. “It’s not a particularly secure building, and this is exactly why we need what we’ve been planning at the White House.”
According to Trump, the proposed ballroom would be significantly larger and equipped with advanced protective features, including reinforced, bulletproof glass and countermeasures against drone threats. He added that both military officials and the United States Secret Service support the need for upgraded facilities.
“We’ve wanted a ballroom for over 150 years,” he said. “But today, the need is different. We’re talking about levels of security that probably nobody has seen before.”
Trump also commended the swift response of law enforcement agencies, including coordination with local authorities in Washington, D.C. He noted he had spoken with the city’s mayor following the incident and expressed gratitude for the actions taken to ensure public safety.
Details about the Hilton incident itself have not yet been fully disclosed, but officials indicate that investigations are ongoing.
