Gunmen have reportedly killed a traditional ruler in Ondo State, Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area.
According to family sources who spoke with journalists, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when no fewer than 10 armed men stormed the monarch’s palace, shooting sporadically. The attackers were said to have come with the intention of abducting the royal father, but the attempt was resisted.
A family member disclosed that the assailants shot at the monarch several times, but the bullets allegedly did not penetrate his body. The source added that the attackers later struck him on the head with another weapon, leading to his death.
The monarch’s wife, who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen were speaking Hausa and reportedly entered the community through the Itaogbolu axis.
However, the Ondo State Police Command gave a slightly different account of the incident. In a statement, the Command said preliminary information from a community leader indicated that about six armed men invaded the monarch’s residence, forcefully whisked him away, and fled toward a nearby bush path.
Police authorities said that upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised officers to the scene alongside tactical teams. A joint security operation involving operatives of Amotekun Corps, the Atunluse security outfit, and local hunters was subsequently launched to comb surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities in search of the suspects.
The police added that security presence has been reinforced in the area, with surveillance and stop-and-search operations intensified to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
