Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, were welcomed with full royal honours on Wednesday by King Charles III and Queen Camilla in a colourful ceremonial reception in London.
The reception featured a display of traditional British pageantry, including mounted cavalry escorts, horse-drawn carriages, a fanfare of trumpets, and a ceremonial gun salute. The elaborate welcome formed part of the formal engagements organised to honour the Nigerian leader during his visit.
The event also showcased the grandeur of the British royal tradition, with soldiers in ceremonial uniforms lining the route as the leaders arrived in horse-drawn carts accompanied by the royal escort.
The meeting between the Nigerian president and the British monarch is expected to strengthen diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, while providing an opportunity for discussions on cooperation in areas such as trade, security, and development.
