The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 65 suspected kidnappers during a coordinated midnight raid in Aviele community in Edo State.
According to the police, the operation was carried out at about 2:45 a.m. on March 2 in Aviele.
In a statement issued on Friday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspects were apprehended following a carefully planned raid by operatives.
Ikoedem disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects during the operation, including ₦1,850,000 believed to be proceeds from ransom payments.
The police spokesperson also said security operatives recovered Nigerian Army uniforms, military kits and other incriminating materials believed to have been used by the suspects in their criminal activities.
She noted that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the police to clamp down on kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
According to Ikoedem, investigations are ongoing, while the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the necessary procedures.
The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime across Edo State.
