The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the party has uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party leader disclosed that the NDC had filed an appeal against a recent court ruling and also submitted an application for a stay of execution. According to the statement, both processes have been duly served on the Chairman of INEC and the commission.
The party further revealed that it had been granted access to the INEC nomination portal, enabling it to commence the submission of its candidates in accordance with the electoral timetable.
“My name and that of the presidential candidate have been uploaded to the INEC portal, while that of the vice-presidential candidate will be uploaded tomorrow upon completion of the deposition. The process is also ongoing for other candidates,” the statement said.
The NDC maintained that it remains a duly registered political party that has participated in all electoral processes to date, insisting that its primary elections were conducted under the observation and monitoring of INEC.
According to the party, the emergence of its candidates for various elective offices has been concluded, with only the administrative process of uploading their names to the electoral commission remaining.
It added that, in line with the INEC timetable, the party has until July 11 to submit the names of its National Assembly candidates and until July 17 to upload those of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
The National Leader urged party members and supporters to remain calm, expressing confidence that there is adequate time to complete the submission of all candidates before the deadlines.
