The newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Sapele Police Division, CSP Nosakhare Omo-Uwuigbe, has received the Executive and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening police-media relations and fostering greater collaboration in the interest of peace and security.
CSP Omo-Uwuigbe, who was until his recent posting to Sapele the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), expressed appreciation to the NUJ delegation led by the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, for the visit.
The DPO described the media as a vital institution in society and acknowledged the important role of journalists as the Fourth Estate of the Realm. He called for a strong, cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between the police and the media to enhance public safety and confidence.
CSP Omo-Uwuigbe urged journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy and objectivity, particularly when reporting security-related matters. He stressed the need for thorough verification of information before publication, noting that responsible journalism plays a significant role in maintaining peace, public confidence and security.
Responding, the Chairman of the NUJ Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, expressed satisfaction with the warm reception accorded the delegation and formally welcomed CSP Omo-Uwuigbe to Sapele.
Agbajor affirmed the media’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace and security in the area, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
He, however, urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to continue to uphold professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and effective communication in the discharge of their duties, particularly in handling security and civil matters.
According to him, a cordial relationship between the police and the media would enhance public enlightenment, build community confidence and contribute significantly to a safer Sapele.
The courtesy visit was attended by officers of the Sapele Police Division, members of the NUJ Sapele Chapel Executive and other members of the chapel.
Both sides expressed optimism that the engagement would mark the beginning of a stronger, more productive and sustained police-media partnership in Sapele.
