Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to win Igueben Local Government Area for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, declaring his determination to overturn his previous electoral losses in the area.
Okpebholo made the declaration on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) grassroots mobilisation tour of Igueben and Esan West local government areas of Edo State.
The governor, who said he had lost in Igueben during his previous senatorial and governorship contests, expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in the area in the next general election.
“You know I have never won election in Igueben. I did not win Igueben while I contested for Senate, I did not win while I was contesting for governorship. I want to win it now to make history,” he said.
According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the governor recalled promising to construct a road in the community during an earlier campaign visit if he secured a specified percentage of votes.
He said work had commenced on the road project, assuring residents that his administration remained committed to fulfilling its promises.
“Today, work is ongoing on that road, and I want to make history by winning Igueben for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election,” Okpebholo said.
While addressing residents in Ebelle, the governor disclosed that his administration had approved a hospital for the community. He also urged the people to vote for the APC in the January 16, 2027 election.
He called on voters to support the party’s candidate for the Edo State House of Assembly, describing him as an experienced representative who would work closely with his administration.
In Esan West Local Government Area, Okpebholo expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the mobilisation exercise, predicting a strong performance for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
“History will be made in January, where our 2.5 million votes will be achieved, because our president is a good man,” he said.
The governor also renewed his support for the establishment of state police, describing it as a potential solution to insecurity and a means of creating employment opportunities.
Addressing supporters in Ekpoma, he described the turnout as evidence of support for Tinubu and expressed optimism that the president would provide critical infrastructure for the people if re-elected.
Okpebholo assured residents that his administration would continue to implement projects aimed at improving their living conditions.
Earlier, the Edo APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, commended the governor’s performance, claiming that his achievements were visible to residents.
Tenebe urged party members to intensify mobilisation for Tinubu and other APC candidates, saying the party was determined to improve its electoral performance in the state.
He also urged voters to consider candidates’ ties to their constituencies, questioning the suitability of a candidate he alleged was not originally from Esanland.
Some residents at the mobilisation venue reportedly expressed satisfaction with the governor’s performance and pledged to vote for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
